October 21, 2005: SEEGF is proud to have sponsored the IGCP 486 Field Workshop. This four day event saw attendance of geoscientists from many countries and was a resounding success. The International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) is a joint endeavour of UNESCO and IGUS (International Union of Geological Sciences) and operates in about 150 countries, involving several thousands of scientists.
It provides a multinational platform for scientists from all disciplines related to earth sciences to exchange knowledge and methodology on a multitude of geological problems of global importance. After three decades of successful work, the "International Geological Correlation Programme" continued, as "International Geoscience Programme". It promotes collaborative projects with a special emphasis on the advancement and sharing of knowledge of geoscience research between developed and developing nations.
The recent name-change reflects the new focus on broad societal oriented themes and takes note of the full range of geosciences. Special emphasis is put on the benefit provided to society, capacity-building and the involvement of geologists from developing countries.
In order for the dissemiate the contributions of participants the SEEGF has produced a CDROM of the conference proceedings, field trip guide and conference presentations. You can obtain a copy of this publication through our Publications page.
