Until 1990, the territory that is now Serbia had a thriving minerals industry, which contributed at today's values, the equivalent of over US$3bn to the country's economy. There are now significant opportunities for investment in Copper, Lead & Zinc and Coal operations being offered for privatization. Also, Serbia is soon to enact a new Mining Law which will reflect modern best practice with improved arrangements for exploration and exploitation licences. The economic outlook is positive and with its location at the heart of the Balkans, Serbia is now moving to re-establish its position as the major regional supplier of raw materials.
